New trailer skirts (And the last of winter).

My boss installed new trailer skirts on the trailer, they are supposed to save 6-8% on fuel. They also look better.

New look.

Calgary. Spring snow. And spring cold. I hope it's the last time.

Closer to the Rockie Mountains, on my way to Vancouver.

Climbing Rogers Pass, not much snow, very good weather across the Rockies.

Rent-A-Truck

This trip I drove a rented truck, since Jeff left earlier on my Peterbilt. It was an interesting experience, because by driving this crappy truck I learn to appreciate more the Peterbilt I usually drive. This truck had everything wrong: downgraded engine, ten speed transmission, no bunk heater, no inverter, ugly white steel rims all around on a disgusting yellow painted truck...

Ugly truck trying to pose.

The nose dosn't look too bad. The fog lights are useless.

The seats are a hand-me-down from the older 9400 series. I like the side window.

The dashbord is very practical, and I love the switches on the steering wheel. But the build quality is beyond most truckers dignity. I hope they're better on owner-operator units.

Ugly white steel rims... They should be outlawed.

Some older pictures

Since I've been home for the week, I thought I'd post some pictures that have not been in this blog.

Road-side restaurant, in La Carolina (Jaen), Spain. I miss the food.

Parked for lunch at the Routier restaurant in Ottmarsheim, France. Near Moulhouse across the German border.

Scraping the bugs off the windshield, in Dryden, Ontario, Canada. A few years ago. Picture taken by my brother Anders Viking www.vikingtrucker.blogspot.com .

Stop and Go near Caldes de Malavella (Girona), near my hometown. My father in the picture.

Closeup of my windshield. A lot of decorative stuff.

Where is Spring?

Spring seems to have arrived at last. Driving from Calgary to Quebec.

Between Calgary and Saskatoon, beautiful clouds.

Did i speak too soon? Northern Ontario, the snow returns...

...but the sun return in Nipigon, and the ice on Lake Nipigon starts to melt...

The sun comes and goes, along HWY 11.

Cochrane, Ontario. Winter never left. What is spring?, they ask around here...

Their dictionaries do not contain the words "spring", "summer" or "thaw"!

Hit the ditch, eh?

How Canadians drive in the winter.

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Practice your skid-parking.

Rubber side up...

Blend in, Canadian camouflage.

Edmonton drivers out for a spin.

Manitoban ice-skating.

"The ditch". Trans-X favorite truck stop.

Mini jack-knife.

Old Ford Crown Victoria. Red on white.

I go "Ice Road Trucking"!

I mean the real deal, where it's real dangerous, unpredictable. No TV series on, that means no husky voice in the background predicting imminent doom.
What happens When you get rain over frozen? Look and see.

Smooth Rock Falls, Ontario. Hwy 11. All looks well.

Manitoban Trans-Canada. That's where the fun begins. The trailer would slip and drag the whole unit into the ditch. Careful slow drivers like this one avoided the ditch, but got stuck on the ice when the trailer got into the inclined shoulder.

Slow motion jack-knife. Even at slow speeds like 30km/h.

This Trans-X truck even had chains on!

Ice is not the only danger. Whiteout conditions will get you into trouble too. Nice to have soft snow to land on. This one was on Hwy 11 between Hearst and Longlac, Ontario. I was westbound here.
