Canadian winter roads.

The weekend Javi arrived in Canada ( www.doingmyway.blogspot.com ), as expected we got hit by a snow storm. Because of an accident on the main route, I got detoured, lost my way (there were no signs), and got stuck. In an unplowed road.

After being rescued by the snow plow...

WINTER TRUCKING IN CANADA

I am thinking of stopping my blog. I don't have any feedback, so you can imagine how I feel... I have an account on facebook (Roger Escuain, the only one) and one on Youtube (rogertrucker). You could follow my travels from any one (I recommend both).
But here are some original photos of my last trip, so you can comment on them.

Across the praries, in Manitoba. A lot of cars spun out in the ditch.

I helped this Russian driver clear the road after he hit this cow-moose on the Trans-Canada HWY, north of Sue-ste Marie, Ontario.

Cheers, and keep on trucking!!

About trucks and expensive cars.

Last week I had the chance of being trained to haul cars. So here are some pictures of the cars I hauled in three days. Well, all of the cars. And I drove them all. You know, taking extra long to get the car into the truck, eh!

The Peterbilt 387, just like the one I usually drive.

1964 Rambler

1966 Chevrolet Impala

1955 Buick Sedan

1966 Pontiac GTO

Corvette & GTO

1964 Volkswagen Beettle

All six cars loaded in Windsor, Ontario. Destination: RM classic car auction in Toronto.

One month on the road (and I'm finally home tonight!)

Most of you must of recognized the "six days on the road" parody... Well, yes, I laugh everytime I listen to Dave Dudley's song "Six days on the road". Only a comfortable trucker will refer to that song (no offence, Javi) ;-D
But I've been as far as Edmonton and Halifax, this being my first time to the Maritime provinces, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. 22,000kms in one month.

I just discovered that I left my data transfer cable in the truck, so forgive me, I have to go and shoot myself, ARGGHHHHH!

But here's one picture of me chillin' out in the Halifax harbour.

I will post more when I can get pictures uploaded from my camera. Sorry!

Just "flippin'", and other pictures.

This truck had flipped over the night before. Somehow he tried to pull back to the road but it was too late...

Cool bug-van, I'd love to have one of those. Air cooled, rear-mounted engine, no-frills traveling fun!

Got my truck filthy driving across Northern Ontario, gravel roads and pouring rain will usually make a muddy combination.

Whassap!!

No new pictures this time, since I'm doing a regular run to Calgary or Edmonton. Anyways, I'll post a picture of myself, since I took one while waiting in Calgary.
I'm off to the lake on Wednesday, so keep an eye open for a new post coming up soon.

ROAD TRIP TO MAINE

I left Monday mid day, towards Adirondack National Forest in New York State, visited Lake Placid (great used book store there), from there took the ferry to Vermont, drove over to New Hampshire, across the Crawford Notch, up Mt.Washington, and via US Hwy2 straight to Bangor (Maine) and then to Ellsworth for easy access to the Acadia National Park. I arrived home Wednesday night, after 2,300 kms. (1,400 miles).

Subarus seem to be liked in the country. There were millionf of them! My 1996 Subaru Legacy (the burgundy one) felt at home during the trip, I can't wait for the winter so I can have some fun with it...!
It performed excellently during the trip, didn't skip a beat at all. Not bad for the 272,000kms it has now on the clock.

I am missing the pictures from the other camera, I left its battery charger in my truck. But here goes some of the pictures for now

Mt. Washington, New Hampshire. The road up (and then down the same way) is 8 miles long and has an average steepnes of 12%, so that means the only way up and down safely is locking the transmission in (L)ow, and stick to 20mph. Lots of fun, the toll was $20 and it included a bumper sticker that reads "This car climbed Mt. Washington!" and a diploma for the driver (me). The summit (8,000and something feet) was covered by a massive cloud, so I couldn't take any pictures from there, but the view was awesome on the drive.
